From Industrial Archaeology to an Idea Workshop

The facility stands inside the pavilion of the former municipal slaughterhouse, a major work of industrial archaeology dating back to the first half of the twentieth century.

After a careful and extensive urban regeneration project, this historic space has been returned to the community in a completely renewed form. The project preserved the strong original architectural character, with its striking stone walls and large exposed trusses, turning an old workplace into a modern cultural and technological hub.

The center is dedicated to the memory of Michele Abbate, a respected doctor and mayor of Caltanissetta who tragically passed away in 1999.

The dedication aims to honor and keep alive the memory of his deep civic commitment, his integrity, and the total dedication he showed in leading the city’s social, political, and cultural renewal. Today the center embodies the values of openness, growth, and service to the community that marked his life.
